Boudhanath

March 29, 2011

Boudhanath, or Boudha as everyone is calling it is one of the holiest places in Nepal. I went there just to see it. The energy there was very nice. Buddhists from all over the world come to visit this holy ground every year. We walked around the Stupa, as everyone else 🙂

Kathmandu

March 28, 2011

Such a crazy city in every way. Over-crowded, over-polluted, people and cars and more people and more cars and shops and small stands and gaaahhh. One week is def. enough. I would go insane here if I stayed longer. Kathamandu just have to be seen to be believed, It’s just too much, too overwhelming. Very fascinating place.

Thamel, a big labyrinth. Never ending narrow streets filled with everything you don’t need!

Thanka

March 27, 2011

We accidentally ended up in this Thanka studio with all this young guys painting Tibetan Thankas. They did everything from mandalas to more buddhistic symbolic ones. I was so amazed by all the small details and how perfect they were.

Buddhistic Teaching at Benchen Monastry

March 26, 2011

I’m at Benchen Monastry in Kathmandu at the moment for a week long Buddhistic Teaching by Tenga Rinpoche. The munks was nice enough to let us sleep on the kitchen floor with bathroom three floors down. First day of the teaching was very exhausting and so much to take in but it’s very interesting. I’ve never heard tibetan before and I’ve never stayed in a holy place like this. I’m really enjoying being here.

Monkeys on our balcony.

Massage Class

March 22, 2011

Devika is holding Ayurvedic massage classes with the ladies from the woman project and I’m there to assist her. Or to be more specific: Devika is teaching the women how to give Ayurvedic massage and they need to train on me 🙂 So every afternoon this week, I get a lovely massage. Ah, the hard life of a volunteer worker!!

Pokhara surroundings on bike

March 21, 2011

We rented a bike to drive around and have a look at the smaller villages around Pokhara.

Like Europe about a 100 years ago. Remember a picture of this in my history book 🙂

My Office

March 20, 2011

So this is where I spend at least a few hours every day, mostly in the mornings till noon. I’m teaching the ladies in the women skill project basic english and they teach me stuff about the Nepali culture. We sit in a ring and we knit together. I’ve never done it before but it’s really fun. We’re having a great time together. They think I’m the most boyish girl they’ve ever met. Or as one of the ladies described me: “a boy with boobs” 🙂 Hmm, don’t know about that.

Morning in Pokhara

March 18, 2011

Early, early morning and I got some papaya and had a stroll down at the lake. There’s no better time to go to Fewa than early morning. It’s so quiet and harmonic and you can just sit down and watch people pass by.

the girls are up early.

I met this boy, he’s deaf. After this morning, I keep running in to him all the time. He’s very sweet. He’s best friend is his dog and they are always together.

He made me this:

Ginger Lemon Honey…

March 18, 2011

is my new healthier addiction. You get the same kick as from cigarettes and red wine ha!! Ginger is very up-lifting. I still haven’t smoked cigarettes and I honestly don’t have any cravings for it. Me, Alice “the russian reiki-master” and “philosopher-Geert ” sipping Ginger-Lemon-Honey in the Ganja Garden (Ganja Garden because of all the Marjuana growing there).

In my Garden…

March 16, 2011

I have a new room now, finally. It’s very small but extremely cosy. My asian style “toilet/ hole” and shower is outside the room, but it’s Ok. Best of all is the garden. The amazing green garden with the flowers. Perfect hang-out for work-free after-noons.
